[English]

In the light of Gottfredson and Hirschi's self-control theory and using the five-factor personality theory, this research aims to evaluate the effect of the five NEO-FFI personality traits on the internal control of crime. The present research has been carried out using a descriptive and correlational method. The statistical population of this research is all students of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, of which 385 people were selected using the relative stratified sampling method and in the light of Cochran's sample size formula. The data collection tool is NEO's five-factor questionnaire and Tanji's self-control short form questionnaire. The correlation matrix of the research variables shows that self-control has an inverse relationship with neuroticism and extroversion and a direct and meaningful relationship with openness, Agreeableness, and conscientiousness. The findings of the stepwise regression analysis also proved that among the five main personality variables, four variables of Openness, neuroticism, extroversion and conscientiousness have the ability to predict self-control.
